The problem
The problem
Preparing for competitive exams in India is often a long and stressful journey, with students facing challenges like lack of motivation, monotony, and overwhelming syllabus. Many existing educational platforms focus solely on content delivery, neglecting user engagement and retention. As a result, students struggle to stay consistent and lose focus, ultimately impacting their performance.

Research Phase: Understanding Gamification
Research Phase: Understanding Gamification
I had previously worked on gamification during my dissertation project thus I had a head start, thus I started reading more about it from different papers and books I also researched on external motivation factors, internal motivation factors which can impact the decisions made by the students while taking tests.

Key Takeaways And My Contribution
Key Takeaways And My Contribution
1) Point System for Engagement:
Implementing a point-based system is crucial to keep students motivated and engaged. Points act as instant rewards, providing a sense of accomplishment and encouraging consistent participation.
2) Progress Bars for Visual Feedback:
Progress bars are essential for creating an engaging user experience. This was implemented in the test card on the home page and also on various other pages for engagement.
3) Visual Representation of Stats:
Students benefit from visualized statistics, such as graphs or charts, to track their performance. I worked on ideation part with one more designer who implemented it the profile page where the students can easily view their stats.
4) Content Gamification:
Gamifying the content itself is equally important. Transforming questions into interactive stories or challenges adds a layer of fun and creativity, making the learning experience more immersive and memorable. This was presented and designed by me but due to some technical difficulties was not implemented

Design Work
One of my task as a designer was to conduct analysis on their onboarding process to understand if there are any usability issues and collaborate with design colleague in ideation. I went through the onboarding process and applied the principles of usability principles like consistency, flexibility, user control and freedom and accessibility
Alongside conducting analysis on the onboarding process, I was tasked with redesigning the test card featured on the application's home page. Leveraging the same design principles, I focused on making the test card more engaging. To achieve this, I incorporated icons and introduced a colour-changing progress bar. This visually dynamic progress bar enhances engagement by providing a clear representation of progress, especially as the app displays results after 10,000 students have participated. This visual element helps users understand their contribution and progress at a glance making it visually appealing.

Alongside my UX/UI design work, I took the initiative to redesign the company's logo and create a mascot to strengthen their brand identity. While these designs have not yet been implemented, they were well-received during internal reviews and align with the company’s vision for enhancing user engagement and brand recognition.

During my internship, I had the opportunity to contribute significantly to the design and user experience of the application. By focusing on key aspects such as gamifying the onboarding process, redesigning the test card for enhanced engagement, and mapping user journeys, I was able to apply user-centered design principles to solve real-world challenges. Additionally, I extended my creative input by redesigning the company’s logo and creating a mascot to strengthen their brand identity.
This experience allowed me to refine my skills in research and visual design while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. It reinforced my ability to combine user insights with innovative design solutions to create engaging and impactful user experiences, leaving me better prepared for future challenges in the field of UX/UI design.
Gamification techniques can be helpful and engaging for users if designed the right way.
Users found the newly designed app engaging and easy to understand and thought the rewards were meaningfully designed enhancing the usability of gamification techniques
